Description


Position Summary:
The Development and Marketing Communications Manager works closely with the Executive Director, Development and Program Director and other colleagues as a writing, communications and design partner on a variety of campaigns and strategic initiatives, particularly annual and project-based donor campaigns, social media communications, and program marketing design and promotion. The role is responsible for articulating details about the Lafayette Library and Learning Center Foundation’s mission and programming in order to grow engagement among audience members, community members and donors over time, executing communications across multiple platforms (including but not limited to web, social media, earned media, written donor communications and print media).

 

Essential duties include:

  • Consistently produces regular, clear, engaging, and high-quality written and visual content, meeting deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and organizational standards.

 

  • With direction from and in collaboration with colleagues, produces fundraising campaign communications, including email, website, direct mail, and social media images/video and scripts, reports to donors, stewardship messages and recognition pieces; works with appropriate staff to solicit input, conduct interviews, and schedule recording or audiovisual production as needed.
     

  • Collaborates with Executive Director and Development and Program Director to create and track campaign communications calendars and plans.
     

  • Acts as writer and/or editor for donor letters, newsletter and social media posts, applying knowledge of best practices for branding, promotion, fundraising, and channel-appropriate formats, including fundraising email and direct mail formats.
     

  • Collaborates with team to publish electronic communications for promotion and content distribution while ensuring message alignment with broader organizational and Development priorities.
     

  • Works closely with team to create, implement, and evaluate fundraising messages and themes that support and enhance LLLCF’s fundraising efforts and educate donors and community members about our funding needs and their role in it.
     

  • Writes and collaborates on writing promotion and marketing copy for programs as needed, including print, email, social media, and website.
     

  • Drafts and publishes copy for press materials, announcements informational materials, website, and promotional materials, including event flyers and campaign brochures.
     

  • Keeps website up-to-date and refreshed, including annual report, donor recognition, sponsor recognition, room rental and program information.
     

  • Supports the team in producing an effective fundraising drive and meeting crucial revenue goals.
     

  • Stays up-to-date on relevant industry best practices relating to communications, technology platform use, media, and fundraising.
     

Organizational Responsibilities:

  • Maintains thorough understanding of LLLCF mission, organizational policies, including employee handbook, procedures, expense reporting, and payroll submission; follows policies and leads by example.
     

  • Actively participates in culture building for the organization that centers clear and open communication and expansive thinking. Collaborates across the small team and with board members and actively seeks opportunities to integrate philanthropy and messaging into their role within all LLLCF projects.
     

Supervision Received:
Position reports to the Executive Director; works closely with the Development and Program Director.


Requirements

Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field and/or three or more years of directly related professional experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above.

 

Position Qualifications:

  • Experience developing marketing and fundraising communications materials, including direct experience writing compelling copy.

  • Experience creating and executing communications plans using a variety of writing and publishing platforms.

  • Ability to create and execute branding-consistent designs across platforms.

  • Understanding of accessibility issues in relation to social media and developing campaigns and designs with accessibility in mind

  • Demonstrated knowledge of broader fundraising principles and practices.

  • Superior writing skills and ability to capture and convey multiple messages, as well as the organizational voice of LLLCF.

  • Proficiency with computers and standard business software, including Windows Office Suite, Google Workspace, Adobe, and ability to effectively use collaboration tools such as Slack, Hootsuite, Trello, and/or other cloud-based collaboration software.

  • Experience with CRMs such as Bloomerang or Salesforce.

  • Demonstrated skills in organization, data analysis, problem-solving, planning, and project coordination.

  • Ability to work in a deadline-oriented environment, managing several projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of output.

  • Interpersonal, relationship-building, and communication skills among diverse communities.

  • Understanding of social and racial equity concepts.

  • Must be able to work an occasionally irregular schedule, including some evenings or weekends as needed.

  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.

  • Strong self-motivation in carrying out responsibilities, organizing and prioritizing multiple tasks, and meeting deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, spirit of cooperation, and embrace to change.

  • Appreciation for, and understanding of, LLLCF mission and programming.

  • A sense of humor. especially in times of stress, but ideally, at all times. We do hard work, and humor is a key component to making it more joyful.
     

Physical Requirements:
Long periods of being in a stationary position; operating a computer and other office equipment; communicating by phone, video platforms, messaging, and email; frequently remaining in a stationary position during meetings, discerning meeting content, expressing oneself, and exchanging accurate information; engaging with partner both within and beyond the library campus; occasionally moving supplies and/or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.

 

Working Conditions:
Primary location in typical office environment, with occasional meetings at off-site locations. This position is eligible for up to 50% remote work, with an expectation of in-person availability at 50% of the week, and during times when requested, such as during event and fundraising planning and execution.
 

Compensation & Benefits:
This 60%-time, non-exempt position includes an annual salary of $45,000 - $52,000, to start, depending on experience. LLLCF also offers a benefits package which includes medical and vision coverage retirement plan with 3% matching, vacation plus holidays and sick leave, and parental leave as outlined by California law. Some benefits are prorated on an accrual basis.
